Obituary for Bill J. Smith

Bill J. Smith, age 85 of Canton, formerly of Villa Rica, passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2017. He was born April 23, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of the late Robert W. Smith and the late Ruby Edwards Sawyers. He was a retired accountant with Capitol Trailways and attended Villa Rica United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Arlene Rehkop Smith; son, Terry Smith; and sisters, Bobbie Jean Webb and Betty Smith. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Mac Branch of Canton; daughter-in-law, Janice Boyer Smith of Whitesburg; sister, Joan Sawyers of Memphis, TN; brothers: Jimmy & Janet Sawyer of Olive Branch, MS and Paul Sawyers of Memphis, TN; grandchildren: Jennifer & Arran Scrivens, Kristi & Dave Ayers, Melissa Smith, Ashley Smith, Charron Hartupee & Amy Borst, Angie & Chad Martin, Ray & Eileen Branch and Justin Branch; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 11:00AM with Pastor Tommy Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com.
