Obituary for CH Gilley

Camp H “CH” Gilley, age 83 of Carrollton, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was born March 2, 1934 in Carrollton, Georgia, son of the late Clifton Homer Gilley and Jewell Smallwood Gilley. He was a 1952 Whitesburg High School graduate and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He worked many years as a self employed poultry farmer and after retiring in 1996, he began growing and producing pecans. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and also a member of Cross Plains Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Denver Gilley, Paschal Gilley, Pal Gilley, and Edmond Smallwood; and sister, Alene Feeney. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Cook Gilley of Carrollton; daughters, Sandy (Terrell) Durham and Rhonda (Brian) Vandiver both of Carrollton; sisters, Virginia Titterson of Ohio, and Pat (Garnet) Turner of Montgomery, AL; brother, Frank (Barbara) Gilley of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Shea and Jeff Beckham, Britta and Brett Thompson, Andrew Vandiver, Valera Vandiver, and Roman Vandiver; and three great grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson, Kaden Beckham, and Elias Beckham. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 3:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Min. Joel Eynon officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Min. Jeff Beckham performing graveside service. Pallbearers will be Andrew Vandiver, Valera Vandiver, Roman Vandiver, Greg Pate, Dustin Pate, Brett Thompson, and Mark Chance. Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Cross Plains Christian Church, and members of the Marine Corps League. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM the day of service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cross Plains Christian Church Building Fund at 1356 Cross Plains Rd, Carrollton, GA 30116 or to Tanner Hospice at 101 Clinic Avenue, Carrollton, GA 30117.
