Obituary for Jacquelyn Randitt Esslinger

Jackie Esslinger

Jacquelyn Randitt Esslinger, 77, of 127 Alice Ln., Carrolllton, GA, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Ms. Esslinger was born in Atlanta on March 24, 1940, the daughter of the late Jack Clifton Randitt and the late Alberta Lois Peek Randitt.
She attended Clark Howell Elementary School and graduated from Savannah High School in 1957. She was a member of the Savannah High Beta Club, National Honor Society, Zeta Phi Y-teens and Warren A. Candler Future Nurses Society. She attended Emory University as a John Gordon Stipe Scholar and was active in Emory Christian Association, Women’s Student Association, member of Emory Women’s Chorale, an Emory lifeguard, and Delta Tau Delta Sweetheart at Emory. In the early 70’s, she worked full time, while raising 4 children, as she put herself through nursing school. She was a member of the first graduating class of the nursing school at University of West Georgia (formerly West Georgia College) in 1976. She received the Academic Excellence Award and was a Presidential Scholar.
Ms. Esslinger had a long career as a nurse in the labor and delivery department at Tanner Medical Center and also in the office of Dr. Richard Colditz, helping to deliver many babies and providing unwavering support for countless women and mothers over the years. After retiring from nursing, she continued to invest herself in helping others as a volunteer with the Tanner Hospice program.
She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church Choir for many years and a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where she received many awards, including volunteer of the year.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by W. Glenn Esslinger, Sr., and son-in-law, John Reed.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law: Lynn and Dan Wehr, Dianne Reed, and Gayle Thomas; son and daughter-in-law,William G. "Bill" Esslinger, Jr. and Debbie Esslinger; grandchildren, Emily Wehr (Bruce) Miller, Bonnie Wehr, William (Raphaela) Wehr, Amy Reed (Brian) Goss, Ben (Ariel) Reed, Sarah Reed, Rick Thomas, Lori Thomas (Tanner) Roach, Jack Thomas, Chris Thomas, William G. "Will" Esslinger, III, Belle Esslinger, Gray Esslinger; great grandchildren, Aria Miller, Jonah Wehr, Katelyn Goss, Madilynn Reed, and two on the way.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 1, at 2:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The family will receive guests prior to the service, in the parlor at Tabernacle, from 12 – 2pm. Honorary pallbearers will be all current and retired Tanner labor and delivery, postpartum and nursery nurses.
