Obituary for Joseph "Dale" Johnson

Joseph Dale Johnson

On May 25, 2017 Mr. Joseph Dale Johnson, age 52 of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Carroll County, GA and a native of South Fulton County, GA passed away suddenly from complications after having heart surgery in April. He is the youngest child of Dr. Rulon B. and Mrs. Barbara Johnson of Whitesburg, GA. Dale is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. Rulon D. and Mrs. Ruby Johnson of College Park, GA and Mr. William H. and Mrs. Irene Stanfield of Fairburn, GA and his niece Miss Roxanne Johnson of Tennessee.

Dale is survived by his three wonderful children, Joseph L. Johnson of Gainesville, GA, Stephanie E. Johnson of Villa Rica, GA, and Destiny F. Johnson of Grove City, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Hannah, Kira, and Barrett Johnson of Carroll County, GA, all of whom are deeply loved by their father and grandfather. He is the loving brother of three siblings, Mrs. Sandra and Mr. Roy Pryor of Whitesburg, GA, Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Peggy Johnson of Murphy, NC, and Mr. Daryl and Mrs. Betty Johnson of Whitesburg, GA, all of whom will miss him deeply, and who will forever cherish the moments they shared with him. He is also survived by his parents, Dr. Rulon B. and Mrs. Barbara, along with his nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends he has made throughout his life.

With a larger than life personality, and stubborn attitude, dale was one of the funniest people you would ever meet. He was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan, and man oh man would he rub that in his Ohio Buckeye friends, neighbors and co-workers faces. Dale had many passions and always loved working with big machinery and could drive and operate most types of equipment which led him to work for Fairbun Ready Mix, the Carroll County Roads Department and Porex Industries. One of his other passions was that of law. This led him to become a member of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. After moving to Ohio, he was employed by DSW Distribution Center in Columbus, Ohio, also all the while following his love of the law to pursue his career with H&R Block.

Dale was a God-fearing man and his home church was Whitesburg Baptist Church in Whitesburg, GA. His hometown of Carroll County is where he became a member of the Carrollton Golden “K” Kiwanis Club. When he left Whitesburg, he moved to a place he had dreamt of living for many years and that was coastal Georgia. He and his family lived in the Richmond Hill, GA where he continued his membership of the Kiwanis Club in Liberty County, GA before moving to Ohio.

Dale’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and also to his neighbors and dear friends, the Maynard family. Thank you Julie, Grady, Ana, and Riley! Thank you for allowing Dale into your lives and treating him as your own family in our absence. Your family was a godsend when we could not be there for him; you all were there as we wished we could have been. Dale would want his friends and family to always remember the he would want you to celebrate his life and not mourn his death. To his friends and co-workers at both DSW and H&R Blocks- Thank you. He loved H&R Block and tax-prep, and he had “mad shoe love”.
