Obituary for LaRuth Bennett Ayers

LaRuth Bennett Ayers, age 83, of Carrollton passed away Saturday evening August 26, 2017 after an extended illness.
She was born November 22, 1933 in Edwardsville, Alabama to the late Hester Rolin Bennett and Lela Elizabeth Hogan Bennett.

She was 1951 graduate of Carrollton High School. She was always honored to hold the title of being Carrollton High School’s First Drum Majorette.

After graduation, she went on to earn her education degree from West Georgia College, where she proudly served as a representative on The May Court.

In 1952 her father opened Bennett’s Dress Shop, located off the square on Alabama Street, and she managed this business selling fine ladies ready to wear for over 30 years.

In 1954 she married the love of her life, Talmadge Donald Ayers; they were together for over 60 years, residing in the Carrollton community. They loved the people of Carrollton and enjoyed all the community events this little Georgia town had to offer.

LaRuth served with the Tanner Medical Auxiliary for over 30 years. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, sang with the Praise Singers and was an active participant in the Adult I Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, LaRuth was preceded in death by sisters, Lela Ester Denney and Betty Hester Cosper.

Survivors include, daughters LaDonna Ayers McKenzie, Elizabeth “Libba” Ayers Conner (Mike) and LeeHester Ayers Rhodes (Russ); grandchildren, Talmadge Emerson Conner (Jennifer), Janie LaRuth McKenzie, Samuel John Conner, Robert Ayers Conner, Rebecca Erin Rhodes and Rachel Elizabeth Rhodes and great grandchildren, Kaydance JaDaci McKenzie, Kinleigh KaDaci McKenzie, Garrett Emerson Conner and Parker Grady Conner.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 Tuesday, Aug 29th at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Allen and Rev. Mary Lou Grimmit officiating. Interment will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tee, Sam, and Rob Conner and nephews, Ricky and Tim McWhorter, and Rolin, Robert and Roderick Cosper.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult I Sunday School Class from Tabernacle Baptist Church, and their spouses, Praise Singers from Tabernacle, members of Tanner Medical Auxiliary and all former members of the West Georgia Squares square dance club.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 28th at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel. In her memory donations may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.martin-hightowner.com
