Margie Heath Coulon, age 93 of Carrollton, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. She was born December 22, 1923 in Carroll County, Georgia, daughter to the late Joseph Stephen Heath and Elizabeth Simpkins Heath. She graduated from Whitesburg High School. During the war years (WWII), she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” in aircraft plants in Marietta and Baltimore. Later, she worked for nearly 50 years as a self-employed hairdresser. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she had been a member of the choir for many years, and she and her late husband, David Coulon, were active members of the West Georgia Square Dancers. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her three brothers, Lester Heath, Arthur Heath, and Clarence Heath; and six sisters, Vaudelle McCarty, Mary Phillips, Doris Phillips, Dorothy Vines, Geneva Driver, and Betty Jo Lyle. Survivors include her son, Dennis F. Bates of Carrollton, brother-in-law Dumas Vines of Carrollton, and a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Bro. Doug New officiating. Dennis Bates will be giving the eulogy. Interment will follow in Clem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Mr. David Guptill performing graveside services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. Pallbearers will be Steve McCarty, Steve Jennings, Stan Jennings, Andy Heath, Mark Wood, Tim Vines, Kemp Denney, and Tommy Lee Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Shadinger, C.A. (Bud) Cook, Harry Eidson, and Thomas Jennings, Jr. As an alternate to flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Tanner Hospice, or to the Mt. Pleasant Church Building Fund.
