Obituary for Opal Fleming Lewis

Mrs. Opal Fleming Lewis, 93, of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at The Stewart House Assisted Living Home in Carrollton, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of death. She was born April 3, 1924 in Carroll County, the first daughter and fourth child, to Thomas Homer and Allie Phillips Fleming. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Merlin, Horace, Alton, Don and T.H. Fleming, two sisters; Sara Chandler, and Helen Whaley, and her husband of 67 years, Fred Lewis. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Phyllis Lewis; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlie and Linda Lott; grandchildren; Jeff (Kim) Lewis, Leslie Bradley, Bryan Ransom all of Carrollton and Tracey Lewis of Columbia, Tennessee; great grandchildren; Ben and Erin Lewis, Sara and Luke Bradley all of Carrollton and Tripp and Hannah Lott of Washington, D.C.; one great- great granddaughter, Little Chloe Jane; one sister, Rachel Wallace of Montgomery, AL; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of New Lebanon Baptist in Lowell for most of her life and she and Fred were active members, serving on many committees and holding many positions in the church for over 50 years. She worked in the clothing industry for 37 years, starting at Dixie Garment in Carrollton before being employed at Sewell Mfg. Company in Temple, Geogia and Bremen, Georgia where she retired in 1986. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Larry Scott, Rev. Terry Fleming and Mike Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Dr. Stephen Peeples presiding. Pallbearers are Dale Fleming, Benjie Fleming, Tom Fleming, Phil Chandler, Jim Wallace, Jeff Wallace and Greg Wallace, The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral hour on Wednesday. Flowers can be sent to Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel or donations made to The Stewart House, 102 South Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
