Obituary for Reba Threadgill Duke

Reba Threadgill Duke, age 88 of Carrollton, passed away September 27, 2017. She was born November 16, 1928 in Carrollton, Georgia, daughter to the late Walter E. Johnson and Ruth Cole Johnson. She was a 1945 graduate of Roopville High School where she was class valedictorian. She attended West Georgia College from 1945-46 and graduated from a Carrollton Business School. She was active in many community affairs including the Tanner Hospital Auxiliary, the March of Dimes and the Junior Woman’s Club. She was a long time and faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she also served in many different areas including Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School. Mrs. Duke worked at the local telephone company and at Carroll Creamery in her early adult years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her previous husbands, William J. “Bill” Upshaw, Bruce Threadgill, and most recent, Nathaniel Duke; her son, Jeff Upshaw; brothers, Horace Johnson and Wendell Johnson; a niece, Jeanette Johnson Hooper; and a brother-in-law, Bill Covington. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Upshaw Covington of Carrollton; grandchildren, April Sullivan of Corvallis, Oregon, and Rob Sullivan of Woodstock and a great-grandson, Emerson Sullivan of Woodstock; nieces, Angeline Johnson Aldridge of Carrollton, Dale Johnson Spivey of Carrollton, and a nephew, Larry Johnson of Roopville as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, October 04, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Carrollton City Cemetery with Dr. Stephen Allen of the Tabernacle Baptist Church officiating.
