Obituary for Wynton Elvys "Chip" Payton

Wynton Elvys “Chip” Payton, Jr, age 70 of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, November 05, 2017. He was born August 13, 1947 in Carroll County, Georgia to the late Wynton Elvys Payton, Sr and Christine Dolores Carlton Payton. He was a math teacher at Central Elementary for more than 20 years and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Mann Payton. Survivors include his son, Trae Payton of Atlanta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Ben Gonzalez of Carrollton, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Bill Garrett of Alpharetta, GA; and special friends, Theresa Stapler and John Nelson Stapler both of Carrollton. Chip was a talented musician who played the piano by ear. A lover of languages and mathematics, he was an inspirational teacher to countless students over the years. Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Carroll Memory Gardens. Those serving as pallbearers will be Trae Payton, John Stapler, Russell Garrett, Bill Garrett, Ben Gonzalez, and Darrell Stephens, Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carroll County Humane Society at www.carrollcountyhumane.org . Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton has charge of the arrangements.
