James Hershell (Jim) Grizzard of Fairfield Plantation, Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia, following a lengthy illness. Jim was born on August 12, 1934 to William Cecil (W.C.) and Annie Ray (Pope) Grizzard in Heard County, Georgia.

Jim served in the United States Air Force for 9 years, receiving several service medals, from 1953 until 1962, and fought in the Korean War. Jim later served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until 1966.

Jim began his 27-year career with Douglas & Lomason in Carrollton, Georgia, in 1963. He later became the Plant Manager of the Red Oak, Iowa facility until 1982 when he moved to Cleveland, Mississippi as the Plant Manager of the facility located there. He was promoted to Executive Manager and was responsible for the Cleveland, Mississippi, Carrollton, Georgia and LaGrange, Georgia plants until his retirement in 1990.

Jim served as a Youth Leader at West Carrollton Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia for several years. He was also a long-time Boy Scout Leader, youth baseball coach and taught countless kids to water ski on Lake Carroll. He was a long-time member of the Fairfield Plantation Menís Golf Association and a founding member of the Nineteenth Holerís Association there. He was a founding member of the Georgia Bulldog Motor Coach Club, as he loved his Georgia Bulldogs!

Jim was preceded in death by his father, W.C. Grizzard, his mother, Annie Ray Pope Grizzard, and his brother, Ray Grizzard.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Grizzard, and his two children: son, James W. (Jim) Grizzard and his wife, Rhonda, of Villisca, Iowa, his daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Lewis and her husband, Mark, of Red Oak, Iowa; his five step-children: Jill (Muller) Namanny of Rockford, Illinois, Peggi (Muller) Maynor and her husband, Marcus of Fairfield Plantation in Villa Rica, Georgia, Melissa (Templeton) Heuck and her husband, Tim, of Troy, Tennessee, Jebb Templeton of Palm Springs, California, and Travis Templeton of Griswold, Iowa.
He also leaves his fourteen grandchildren: Andy Grizzard of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Greg Grizzard and Anna Renee Grizzard, both of Villisca, Iowa, Ryan Halvin of Gulfport, Mississippi, Brandon Halvin of Kansas City, Missouri, Erik Lewis of Red Oak, Iowa, Jesse Weston and Kalyn Namanny of Rockford, Illinois, Lane Maynor and Anne-Marie Maynor of Villa Rica, Georgia, Christian Cousar and Courtney Heuck, both of Troy, Tennessee, and Logan Templeton and Emma Templeton, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and his five great grandchildren: Jasmine Grizzard, Natalie Grizzard, Travis Halvin, Jack Weston, and Henry Weston, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated. Family and friends will gather at Martin Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton, Georgia on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM for visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 2 PM at the Martin Hightower Heritage Chapel. All friends and family are invited to gather at the Fairfield Plantation Country Club at 4 PM, following the Celebration of Life.
