Obituary for James Herman Smith

James Herman Smith, age 89 of Carrollton, passed away May 19, 2017. He was born August 2, 1927 in Wedowee, Alabama. He proudly served in the United States Navy at the tender age of 17 and was a member and Deacon of Salem Baptist Church. He was the owner of Haralson County Gas Inc. for more than 29 years and retired in 1990. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Smith and Hubert Smith; sister, Ruby Brewer; and grandson, Christopher Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Carter Smith of Carrollton; sons, Steve Smith (Sherian) of Commerce, GA and Sammy Smith (Angela) of Temple; sister, Reba Cormeny of AK; four grandchildren, Brian Smith, CJ Smith, Andy Smith, and Alicia Smith; and one great grandchild, Alivia Floria. Funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Milford Ballenger officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Brian Smith, CJ Smith, David Harwell, Danny Harwell, Terry Bonner, and Jeremy Singleton. Honorary pallbearer will be Grover Cleveland. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
