Obituary for Ricky Duane Lonitz, Sr

Ricky Duane Hale Lonitz Sr, 63, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, after a battle with cancer. Ricky was beloved by his family. In his early life, Ricky is remembered by many for his love for his family, being a great babysitter, and sometimes coming to the rescue of his sisters and nieces.

When Ricky was a young boy, he had a job delivering newspapers, and he also worked for Mathis Dairy delivering milk to homes. In July 1971, Ricky joined the United States Army as part of the Infantry. Ricky was trained as a cook by the Army and eventually became the kitchen supervisor. Ricky was deployed to Germany during the Vietnam era and received a National Defense Service Medal.

After being discharged honorably, Ricky returned to his home in Georgia where he got married and became a father to two children, Ricky and Stefanie. Ricky had developed a love of cooking, and continued this in his civilian life. Ricky became the head chef at Stouffer’s at Lanier Islands and also had several other positions managing restaurants.

Ricky was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Hale Pazderski. Ricky is survived by his mother, Janice Faulkner, Uncle Gerald Duke, Aunt Omie Hale, sisters, Phyllis Threlkeld, Dodie Matthews, Jeanne Lonitz, and Brittany Kondor, children Ricky Lonitz Jr. and Stefanie Thomas, grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan, Kyle, Alivia, Brianna, Shannon, Caleb and Jaycob, great grandson Noah, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Things we remember about Ricky, he always sent birthday cards, his independent spirit and survival skills through good times and bad, always a rule-breaker, and his love for his family.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 22, 2018 at 3:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Randall Eidson officiating. Interment will follow in the Kansas Baptist Church cemetery. The American Legion Post #143 will perform military honors.
