Obituary for Jeanette Inez Nixon Robinson

Jeanette Inez Nixon Robinson, age 88 of Mt. Zion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018. She was born May 23, 1930 in Carroll County, Georgia, daughter of the late Wiley Dewey Nixon and Ernestine Cook Nixon. She graduated early from Mt. Zion High School at the age of 16 and was valedictorian of her class. She won numerous awards and honors during her high school and college years, including a citizenship award and the Georgia State Oratorical Contest, among other accomplishments. Her teaching career spanned over 50 years and included teaching assignments in Haralson, Carroll, Coweta Counties and Bremen City Schools. Her retirement from full-time service from Bremen in 1988 did not end her career. She continued to substitute as long as her health would allow. She received “Teacher of the Year” awards several times over the years, including her retirement year of 1987-1988. The school honored her with a birthday party in May of that year, sending a limousine to pick her up and take her to school as the entire H.A. Jones administration, faculty and student body lined up to bid their beloved “Mrs. J” farewell. She was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and formerly served as UMW secretary, church treasurer, and administrative board secretary. She was also an active member of the Carrollton Pilot Club as long as her health allowed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years and the love of her life, William “Billy” W. Robinson; and sister, Dorothy Nixon Ashmore. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Patricia Hendrix (Allen) of Carrollton, Cathy Gambrell (Philip) of Carrollton, Phyllis Snipes (Lance) of Mt. Zion, Melody Marlow (Jeff) of Carrollton, William W. “Bill” Robinson, Jr. (Laurie) of Acworth, and Scott Robinson (Sherry) of Waco; and sister, Margaret Nixon Perkins of Mt. Zion. She was “Nanny” to fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren who will miss her greatly. Funeral service will be conducted Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Lance Snipes, Elder Dave Chandler, and Rev. Don Richards officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Dana Davis, Shane Latham, Tyler Marlow, Chris Crews, Brad Gambrell, John Tuten, Tripp Robinson, and Nick Aloisio. The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
